A-BUS
multiroom system
The A-BUS multi-room audio is unique in distributing audio to the
target room, amplifying it at the keypad, then passing it to the
loudspeaker. This means that you can use your existing stereo source,
eg normal stack system, micro or mini hi-fi without any additional
amplifying equipment in the source room.
In addition to your main listening room, which remains unaffected,
A-BUS delivers music to up to another 4 rooms using the standard
single source kit, but this can be expanded considerably.
Wiring installation is straightforward using Cat5e cable from the
surface mount hub to the keypads, then speaker cable to the loudspeakers.
Volume control is by the amplified keypads. The system has an IR
receiver built into each of the keypads that can receive and transmit
signals back to the stereo components via 4 built-in IR emitter
outlets for full control. Single source kits include hub, keypads,
power supply, remote control and punch down tool. 4 source kits
also include a local source input plate and the learning remote
control.
The system has a power rating of 8 Watts, which is ideal for general
listening throughout your house. Ceiling speakers with matched power
ratings are supplied separately and can be chosen from our in-ceiling
speakers range.
If you want to have a tidy termination of the Cat 5e cable from
the keypads near the central hub, you can use the HNS RJ45 data
outlets either with or without the HomeCabling patch panel, and
connect to the hub by a patch lead.
Multi-source
Now ABUS has gone MULTI-SOURCE with their 4 source surface mount
hub, which allows you to choose independently from 4 sources in
any of the 4 rooms. In fact each zone can drive two keypads so you
can easily have music to 8 rooms! (NB: if you have more than 4 keypads
working off a single hub, then to power these you need an extra
power supply). You can add this to your existing A-BUS system, or
buy it as part of a complete kit, including the 4 source 4 zone
hub, 4 AKP2.2 keypads, a learning remote, APS power supply, and
a single A-LC local source input.
Retrofit multi-source!
If you have a single source A-BUS system you can now convert it
to multi-source using the new A-MSS Music Source Selector.
The A-MSS allows you to select one of the four sources using either
an A-BUS keypad or a Russound Remote Control. The selected source
is sent over the A-BUS link to a single-source Russound A-BUS hub
(such as the A-H4, A-H4P or the A-H2) and can be heard in every
room in a whole house audio system.
The A-MSS features four stereo inputs with loop outputs for sharing
audio sources with other A/V receivers. The A-MSS provides control
for A/V components via four IR Emitter mini-jacks with a confirmation
LED indicator. The A-MSS also provides a 12 volt trigger output
for activating accessories.
System expansion
The range of surface mount hubs allow you to add an extra 2 or 4
zones to your existing system, or have a complete 2 zone system.
The hubs require an A-BUS APS power source, which drives 4 keypads.
For 5 to 8 keypads you need two power supply units. For 9 or more
keypads you need extra hubs and more power units
Local source input
You can also add a local (room) input option with the ALC wall mount
plate. This is ideal where your youngsters want to listen to their
own mini system or personal CD player through the room speakers.
It is also ideal if you want to use the stereo room speakers whilst
watching TV. The ALC does not require power.
A-BUS Products
A-BUS™ MULTI-ROOM AUDIO SYSTEMS OVERVIEW
This brief product overview of A-BUS™ will help alleviate
any confusion.
With A-BUS, there simply isn’t much confusion to have.
It’s such a simple system – sort of like Lego™
Blocks for Multi-Room audio.
Key Features
• A-BUS is a patent-pending technology that uses a single
Cat 5 for Multi-Room audio.
• This means it is a cost-effective solution that is really
easy to install and use.
• A-BUS is simply plug and play – no programming.
• A-BUS sounds great because we send pure line level signal
to each room, not speaker level signal (which loses power and sound
quality over distance).
• A-BUS is dependable – been in the US market for 6
years and is growing fast.
• A-BUS systems plug right in to A-BUS/ready receivers from
Harman Kardon and Cambridge Audio.
Key BENEFIT Words for A-BUS
The key words that accurately describe A-BUS Multi-Room Audio are:
SIMPLE, AFFORDABLE, EASY-TO-USE, MUSICAL, FLEXIBLE
FUNCTIONAL OVERVIEW
An A-BUS system accomplishes three functional steps…
• Prepare the audio signal, power, IR and data for Cat 5-based
A-BUS system
• Route the audio signal, system power, IR info and data to
each room or zone
• Amplify the audio signal IN each zone and send it to speakers
IN that zone
There are THREE types of basic A-BUS components…
• HUBS – act as the central organization point for A-BUS
• POWER MODULES – provide amplification and control
• ACESSORIES – let you do more things with your A-BUS
system
A typical A-BUS system consists of these components:
POWER MODULES - These
in-room control modules have the amplification and control in one
single-gang unit. Cooper has three models to cover the range of
applications.
ABO-20 – The
basic rotary control has no Infrared capability so it should be
used in secondary locations where only basic volume control is appropriate
and IR control is not necessary - great for basic listening areas–
laundry rooms, hallways, bathrooms, work areas, etc. Saves some
budget in system design.
ABO-42 – Much
more modern looking pushbutton control, includes IR, which gives
the user remote control level adjustment. Comes with mini-emote.
ABO-45 – More advanced keypad control – matches up with
Multi Source hub. It is a 4-source A-BUS keypad/volume control module
w/ pushbutton volume and input UP / DOWN, OFF and ALL OFF. Includes
source input indication and backlit volume level indication. Comes
w/ ABO-40RC remote control. Four ABO-45’s come in the Multi
Source Hub Kit.
HUBS - Hubs are the
heart of A-BUS connectivity. There are different versions for different
applications.
ABK-4 /110 –
One audio source in – Four zones of output out
For installation in structured wiring panels, this is the most basic
hub for a multi-room system. It provides for one source to be sent
to up to four zones in the home. If more zones are desired, simply
daisy-chain more hubs. Includes APS-40 power supply.
ABX-84 - Four-Input,
Four-Dual-Zone Outputs
Structured-wiring hub with four A-BUS (RJ-45) inputs and four dual
zones (two outputs each). Also includes RJ-45 expansion output to
ABX-85 expansion hub for more zones (optional), ASBX-84 has input
level adjustment, routed emitter ports, common IR output, 12 volt
trigger, system status and talkback LED’s. Kit comes with
four ABX-75 single-input modules to route sources via single Cat
5 from anywhere in the home to the hub. Kit also comes with 4 ABO-45
keypads and one APS-40 power supply (one required for each output
bank - A & B) and one ABO-41RC A-BUS learning remote.
ACCESSORIES - One
of A-BUS’ greatest strengths is that the system easily handles
a wide variety of situations as easily as plug and play. These pieces
enable this flexibility.
ABO-70 – Local
Input Module – single-gang module that enables input of local
source in the zone or room. Switches automatically to local input
whenever local signal is sensed. Great for TV in bedrooms or MP3
players in kid’s rooms, etc.
ABK-50 – A-BUS
Interface adapts the audio output of receivers and amplifiers into
A-BUS format. The ABK-50 would connect directly to an A-BUS hub.
We hope this information will help familiarize your team with the
fastest growing Multi-Room audio technology on the planet –
A-BUS.
